Writing Check

The 4-part check. It shows you where to look. You do the fixing.

The 4 parts
  1. Does every sentence fit? Every sentence should help tell your story or explain your idea.
    Not yet: “We slept in a tent. My video game has three levels.”
  2. Is it clear and does it sound right? Read it quietly out loud, exactly what is on the page.
    Not yet: “She put it the shelf.”
  3. Does each sentence have both parts? Who or what, plus something about them.
    Not yet: “Found a shiny shell.”
  4. Did I split ideas that run together? Put a period or “and” between two complete ideas.
    Not yet: “The dragon woke up it flew away.”
